Guernsey have decided not to pay players |
Guernsey Rugby Club boss Adrian Le Page says he is worried about the increasing gap between his side and Jersey ahead of Saturday's Siam Cup clash. Professional side Jersey have recently gained promotion to London Division One, two leagues higher than Guernsey. "Jersey have the money to go all-out to stay in the league that they're going into," Le Page told BBC Radio Guernsey. "We're a little bit concerned but we agreed that we weren't going to go ahead and pay players." Jersey beat Staines 15-0 on Saturday to gain promotion to London's top flight. | There's not much we can do about it unless some huge sponsor comes along and injects a large amount of money Guernsey coach Adrian Le Page |
"There's not much we can do about it unless some huge sponsor comes along and injects a large amount of money so that we could go along the same route." And Le Page says it will be interesting to see how the two sides fare in Saturday's Siam Cup, a trophy which the green and whites currently hold. "We were very close to promotion this season, we probably just missed out slightly on sticking on their coat-tails. Next season we may well get promotion ourselves," he said.
