Plymouth Albion's South African-born back-row forward Jannie Bornman is to leave for south west rivals Cornish Pirates at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old, who played Currie Cup rugby for Griquas in South Africa, has impressed Pirates coach Mark Hewitt.

"He is a quality person and player who suits our style of play, and who will fit in well with our plans for next year," said Hewitt.

Bornman can play at either flanker or number eight and has captained Albion.

Bornman's acquisition is the latest in a series of comings and goings at the Pirates for the 2008-09 season.

Speculation is still rife that captain Tim Cowley will leave for French side Bourgoin, although the club has refused to comment on the matter.

The Pirates have secured the services of wingers Rhodri McAtee and Jimmy Moore for next season, along with forwards Rob Elloway, Darren Dawidiuk, Bruce Cumming and Matt Evans.

The Pirates have also kept hold of Canadian scrum-half Ed Fairhurst, but top points scorer Gareth Steenson and back-rower Chris Cracknell are heading across the Tamar to sign for Exeter Chiefs.
