Gavin Quinnell's early try proved the inspiration for a vital victory |
Launceston's hopes of staying up have improved after a 27-5 win over fellow strugglers Newbury which lifted them off the bottom of National League One. The Cornish All Blacks got off to the perfect start when number eight Gavin Quinnell went over from a catch and drive move after just four minutes. Centre Pete Fisher then put Launceston in control when he evaded more than one tackle to make it 15-0 at half-time. Right wing Matt Jess gained the bonus point by scoring two further tries. The All Blacks are now off the foot of the table thanks to Birmingham & Solihull's 29-13 derby defeat at Coventry.
