Lamont was injured after an accidental collision with Balshaw |
Scotland winger Rory Lamont will miss his side's final Six Nations match against Italy after sustaining a facial fracture against England. Lamont was taken off on a stretcher after colliding with Iain Balshaw in the first half at Murrayfield.
He was released from hospital on Saturday but team doctor James Robson said the injury may need surgery.
"Rory has made good progress from his concussion but scans revealed he does have a facial fracture," said Robson.
Scotland will also be without hooker Ross Ford after he injured an ankle ligament in the Scots' 15-9 win.
Medical staff are assessing the state of Hugo Southwell's jaw, Nikki Walker's ankle and Chris Paterson's arm in the wake of a bruising clash with the old enemy, but all three are expected to be fit for Rome.
