Jersey let slip a 16-point half-time lead but still held on to win 22-16 at Beckenham. After Jonny Swift's early penalty, Graham Bell went over for a converted try, added to by further efforts from Ryan Morgan and Steve O'Brien.
But Jersey then lost control in the second half, allowing Beckenham to score two late tries.
Jersey Director of Rugby Dai Burton said: "It's more important that we win games than win by a lot of points."
He told BBC Radio Jersey the team "totally dominated all areas of the field" in the first half and "were playing with a lot more freedom" than in the last four games.
"We could have actually turned round and had more like 40 points such was our dominance," he added.
Jersey remain top of the London 2 South division, one point ahead of Haywards Heath.
