Rees wants to concentrate on full-time regional coaching |
BBC Wales understands Newport Gwent Dragons assistant coach Dai Rees is interested in taking up the vacant Canada post. Rees has just quit his post as Wales Sevens coach to concentrate on securing a long-term coaching contract.
"I have enjoyed my role as the Sevens team coach enormously, but it is a huge commitment in terms of time away from the Dragons and my family," he said.
"I feel having made up my mind to go it would be wrong to stay in position."
Rees has been a WRU coach for the past 11 years and has been in charge of national teams for 95 international matches.
He has coached Wales at Under 19, 20 and 21 age group levels and has also coached the Welsh women's team before taking charge of the Sevens squad.
This year the Sevens team have returned as a core member of the IRB Sevens circuit and beat England in the final of the bowl tournament at the recent tournament in South Africa.
Wales will travel to New Zealand for the IRB 7s series in February.
