A late try from Pat Sanderson handed Worcester victory against Harlequins in the EDF Energy Cup at The Stoop.

The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes when Netani Talei scored a try on debut, but Quins responded with five points from winger Ugo Monye.

Hooker Aleki Lutui touched down to give Worcester the lead once again, only for Monye to hit back with a second try.

Quins took the lead after the break through Chris Brown's try before Sanderson's late match-winning score.

The victory was Worcester's first in eight matches this season and ensures the Warriors are still in contention to qualify from Group C despite their 47-16 defeat to the Ospreys.

Worcester director of rugby Mike Ruddock:
"(Fiji's World Cup number eight) Netani Talei looks a really good signing. I thought he was man of the match for us.

"He gave us a great go-forward and scored a fantastic try. It must have given the boys a lift.

"I've been in this (winless) situation before - but not one as long as this. We let ourselves down really badly (against Ospreys) last week but hopefully, on the back of this win, we can keep building."

Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards:
"I don't think some of our players have understood that every game is an important as the next.

"The best players in the world treat every game the same and that is what we have got to be striving for, consistency.

"I also felt they under-estimated Worcester who have played some fantastic rugby this season and not got the rewards they deserved.

"Ours is a very young side which needs to concentrate week-in and week-out. I don't think, at this moment in time, we have got that hard edge about us and it cost us today but it will come."
