Scotland have never reached a Sevens semi-final |
Hosts Scotland joined Wales in the quarter-finals of the IRB Edinburgh Sevens at Murrayfield. The Scots will face Argentina, while Wales will take on Fiji, but England failed to reach the last eight for the second tournament in a row.
New Zealand meet South Africa and Samoa play Kenya in the other quarter-finals.
Fiji are just one win away from sealing the overall title and victory over Wales would give them the 12 points they need to retain their crown.
Scottish coach Stephen Gemmell's side beat Russia 19-5, thrashed Canada 31-5 and shocked South Africa 24-17 to avoid big guns New Zealand in Sunday's knock-out stages.
"We can beat any team in this competition," said Gemmell.
Scotland, who have never reached the semi-finals, have improved over the past four legs of the series, picking up points in San Diego, Hong Kong, Adelaide and London to climb to ninth in the standings.
Wales, who lost last week's semi-final with Fiji at Twickenham, beat France 28-12 and Italy 43-0 after losing their opener 21-14 to Samoa.
"It'll be a big challenge but we don't feel like we performed to the best of our ability last week," said Wales' Dafydd Hewitt on the rematch with Fiji.
Wales coach Dai Rees added: "Our goal this season was to finish in the last eight in at least three tournaments, a goal which we have now achieved."
England beat Georgia 24-0 but lost 19-14 to Argentina and crashed to a 38-0 defeat to New Zealand. They will now meet Canada in the Bowl quarter-finals.
