France saw their Six Nations Grand Slams hopes turn to dust as a resurgent England side secured a 26-18 victory.

"We played well defensively but not in attack. I think the pressure got to the French," he said.

"We were not ambitious enough. We should have scored twice in the first half and we allowed them to come back into the game three or four times."

France went into the match knowing victory over England would be a big step towards a fifth Grand Slam in 10 years, with only struggling Scotland left to play.

"Maybe it was the pressure of the result because the players were thinking about the Grand Slam," said Laporte.

"We didn't have enough ambition to stay alive until the end of the game.

"England played well. They played a closed game at the beginning of the match probably because they wanted to find new confidence."
