James Hook showed his potential for Wales against Australia

Jones has been reluctant to play Hook at stand-off and the youngster has often found himself on the bench.

But the 21-year-old's super-sub show in the 29-29 draw with Australia has seen Jenkins call for Hook to play more.

"We would like to see him have a lot more starts and play at 10 for the Ospreys," Jenkins said.

"There is no doubt he is potentially an international 10.

"We have good regional coaches and the Ospreys are going well. But when you see James playing like that, I am sure Lyn himself will also have the confidence to give James time in the 10 position."

Gavin Henson or Shaun Connor have largely shared the Ospreys number 10 shirt this season.

But the combination of Hook at fly-half with Henson at inside centre for Wales looked every bit a Test pairing against the Wallabies.

Hook came on as a replacement for injured captain Stephen Jones with just 24 minutes gone and Wales trailing 17-6, having taken a fearful early hammering.

But the youngster, in the face of immense pressure, showed remarkable poise and played a key role as Wales launched a courageous comeback.

Hook made his Test debut for Wales on the developmental summer tour of Argentina before he had even started a game for the Ospreys.

But he convinced Jenkins of his World Cup pedigree in South America and on Saturday displayed it to the rest of the rugby world.

"I had the opportunity in Argentina to take young guns who had big potential," Jenkins said.

"In that environment we saw three or four who will come through to become World Cup players.

"And we saw an example of that (progression) against Australia with James Hook and (lock) Ian Evans.

"James had a great game. He is a young man and is very talented but what he showed against Australia was the type of composure, self-belief and confidence you need to play on the international stage.

"He will have excited every rugby supporter in Wales with that performance."
