Leota ponders League move
Wasps hooker Trevor Leota
Leota is a huge cult favourite with fans
Wasps hooker Trevor Leota hopes to play rugby league for the London Broncos for the rest of this summer.

The Samoan hooker will play in Sunday's Heineken Cup final against Toulouse and the Zurich Premiership final with Bath before a possible loan switch.

"He has approached me about wanting to play but no-one from the Broncos has," confirmed Wasps coach Warren Gatland. "We are considering it."

"It's not quite signed and sealed yet but the Broncos are keen," Leota said.

"I expect it to happen," he added. "Most of the guys at Wasps think it's a great idea and I'm definitely very keen to do it.

I am sure he would be explosive in the first five minutes!
Wasps assistant coach Shaun Edwards
"The idea would be to have the summer at the Broncos and be back at Wasps for pre-season.

"I love rugby league. I was brought up in a league family, know the game well and usually play a bit when I'm back home in Australia during the summer break."

Gatland admitted he would rather Leota stay in London than head to the southern hemsiphere to play for the Pacific Islands union side, another possibility.

"I don't want him to go back up to 135kg over the summer when he should be under 122," he said. "If anyone can think of a better way of doing that then I'd been interested in hearing about it.

"We have a minder from the fitness staff on him 24 hours a day, because he is so important to us over the next couple of weeks.

"I believe, on his day, he is the best hooker in the world."

Wasps assistant coach, rugby league legend Shaun Edwards, believes Leota could be a huge hit in the 13-man code.

"It would create a bit of interest for the crowd and I would pay to watch Trevor against some of those Bradford forwards," Edwards said.

"How he'd last 10 minutes of moving up and down 10 metres is the question. But I am sure the first five minutes would be explosive!"
