Sanderson's progress has been blighted by injuries |
Sale flanker Alex Sanderson has been ruled out of England's summer tour to New Zealand and Australia. The Saracens-bound forward will undergo surgery on a back injury which will keep him out of the three-Test trip.
"It is pretty serious," said a Sale spokesman. "He leaves us next week but he will have the surgery before then."
Sanderson, who won the last of his five caps against France last August, would have been a contender for the back-row in the likely absence of Lewis Moody.
He was also forced to miss England's tour down under last summer after undergoing neck surgery.
The 24-year-old did return for the Tests against Wales and France in August but missed out on the World Cup squad.
