Noble's side have a negative points difference in the table

Wigan coach Brian Noble has called for a stronger defensive effort from his squad after their 45-38 defeat by Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "We may have to get the old shoulder pads and bags out. We need to improve greatly after that defensive performance.

"We are going to have to speak to people who are not consistent and say 'You need to pull your socks up'."

Wigan conceded seven tries and now sit in fifth, 10 points off leaders Leeds.

Noble added: "It was frustrating more than tough as we tend to be taking one step forwards and a couple back now and again and we can't afford to do that in relation to our consistency."
