Smith's team have won eight of their last 10 matches |
Warrington head coach Tony Smith thinks consistency will be key to beating St Helens on Saturday. Wolves go into the match 10 points adrift of the Super League leaders but thriving in a mid-term purple patch. He told BBC Radio Manchester: "If you start to become consistent you start to have certain standards. "We've got standards in our defensive system we'd like to maintain and, if we do that, that gives you a chance and puts you in the game for a win." "There are certain standards in our attack that we'd like to, you know, achieve and if you don't do that, well, you're not going to win so it's all about maintaining those standards and those performances in those areas," added the England boss. "Putting it simply, you've just got to play well to beat Saints, you've got to play well. There's not many times that anybody can walk off the field against St Helens with a win and say they didn't play well. It just does not happen. "In order to win, you've got to play well so that's why we're concentrating on performance and that's why we have for some time. "It's not just about winning games it's how you go about it and unless you can produce performance you have no chance against St Helens because they're just going to take you to task. "Admittedly, producing performance is never the same (game to game) but you start to learn methods of reproducing something similar."
