Celtic Crusaders (0) 6 Tries: Dyer Goals: Lennon
Warrington (6) 22 Tries: Clarke, Harrison, Mathers (2) Goals: Hicks (3)
Luke Dyer's late try saved the Crusaders from the ignominy of failing to score for the second week running as Warrington eased to victory in Wales. Jon Clarke scored the only try of the first half, before Ben Harrison touched down and Richie Mathers added two more to put the visitors well in control. With time running out, it looked as if Super League's bottom side would finish the game scoreless again. But Dyer's touchdown, converted by Mark Lennon, salvaged some Celtic pride.
Warrington coach Tony Smith: "I thought our defence was awesome. I don't want to be negative but there were handling errors. I was encouraged by the way we started to play before those errors crept in. "It was a greasy ball and, although it was not wet or raining, it was greasy out there and it is a while since we played in those type of conditions. "Some individuals struggled with that but, overall, I was quite satisfied in the manner we went about the game. There was some good rugby league played out there and some enterprising tries. "I don't want to be too downbeat about it because that will not give credit to Celtic, who I thought defended very well as well. They are very solid in that area." Celtic Crusaders coach John Dixon: "The better team won. I thought we were full of spirit and good endeavour but we lacked pace and execution when we had scoring opportunities. "I thought Warrington were particularly good when they had the ball." "I watched that left-hand side defend and saw Anthony Blackwood get a wonderful take there under real pressure but, when they scored, we deserved it," added Dixon, referring to Warrington's first try. "It was a fairly easy sort of kick and it ends up being six points to Warrington."
