Briers signs new Warrington deal

Briers has signed up to play in his 14th season for Warrington

Long-serving Warrington stand-off Lee Briers has committed his future to the club until the end of the 2010 season.

The Welsh international, 31, has signed for a 14th Wolves season, ending speculation of a move to Widnes.

"Lee is one of the brightest talents in the game and I look forward to continuing to work with him," said Warrington coach Tony Smith.

New Zealand international Vinnie Anderson and youngster Mike Cooper have also signed new one-year deals.

Briers' future had been unclear with new coach Smith assessing his squad, but the England boss said he is happy to have the experienced former Wales international in his club side.

"Lee and I have a good working relationship and we understand what we require from one another," said Smith.

"We work happily together and have formed a good partnership so far."

And Smith was also pleased to secure Anderson and 20-year-old Cooper for another year.

"Vinnie also brings a wealth of experience to the team having had success in both the international and domestic game," he said.

"For a young guy Mike has been around the first team for quite a long time. He continues to improve and is set to establish himself as a regular first-team player of the future."

The deal for utility-man Anderson means the 30-year-old, who joined Warrington from St Helens in 2006, will continue to play alongside brother Louis in the Wolves side.
