King scored a try in the first half against Wigan before his injury |
Warrington coach Paul Cullen has reacted to a high tackle on Matt King by calling for more severe punishment for players who cause injuries. King was carried off in Saturday's 32-20 win over Wigan following a hit by Richard Mathers, who was sent off and has a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday. Asked what would be a suitable punishment, Cullen said: "Injuries to players need to be factored in. "I don't know whether King will play next week, but he does not look good." Cullen pointed to the recent one-match ban given to Hull KR's Stanley Gene for a high tackle on Warrington's Simon Grix, who could miss four matches through injury. | 606: DEBATE |
"Stanley Gene is playing this weekend but Simon Grix has missed two games and he might miss another couple," said Cullen. "Somewhere down the line that needs to be taken into consideration." Mathers became the first player to be sent off in Super League XIII when he was shown a red card 49 minutes into the game. The game had to be held up for six minutes while a badly-concussed King received treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.
