Newton is an experienced Super League campaigner |
Wakefield have signed Bradford hooker Terry Newton on a two-year deal from the start of next season. The 30-year-old former Great Britain international has made over 300 Super League appearances with the Bulls, Wigan and Leeds. He won the 1999 Challenge Cup with Leeds against the London Broncos but has lost out in four Grand Finals. "I feel that Terry's experience and ability will allow the team to improve," said coach John Kear. "This is another pointer to the fact that Wakefield Trinity Wildcats is a developing and improving club." Newton had been offered a one-year contract extension by Bradford but he wanted a two-year deal and is excited about his new challenge. | 606: DEBATE Belle Vue, The Home of Rugby League |
"I'm very much looking forward to joining the Wildcats," he said. "I had the opportunity to go to a number of other clubs but I wanted to come to Wakefield as I have been very impressed with how they have performed this season and the current set up "It has been a fantastic atmosphere whenever I have played against Wakefield and I just can't wait to get involved."
