Betham takes Wakefield captaincy
Monty Betham
Betham has extensive captaincy experience with the NZ Warriors
Wakefield have appointed former New Zealand international Monty Betham as their captain for the new season.

The 27-year-old, who joined the club from New Zealand Warriors in the close season, replaces Jason Demetriou.

"I've been really impressed with Monty's attitude since he arrived," said Wakefield coach Tony Smith.

"I knew his reputation of being a tough campaigner and a leader - and he's definitely lived up to that. It would be foolish to ignore those qualities."

Betham said he was fully committed to the club and hoped to end his career at the Atlantic Solutions Stadium.

"I'm privileged to be named captain," he said.

"I've been here a month, and my wife and I are really enjoying the place.

"David Solomona sold this place to me, and so far everything he said has come true. This town loves league: everywhere I go, I see Wakefield Wildcats jackets.

"I'm looking forward to contributing for this club and if I can do that I am sure I will finish off my career here.

"Wakefield are not a glamour club, and that suits me to a T - we're very similar."

Demetriou has been appointed as the Wildcats' new club captain.
