St Helens centre Matt Gidley says his side can beat Leeds as they prepare to face them in the Super League Grand final for the third time in a row.

Saints have faced Leeds at Old Trafford for the last two seasons, with the Rhinos winning both times.

"The Grand Final is a one-off game and the winner gets to lift the cup at the end," Gidley told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"The motivation is to be champions of 2009. That's what we are focused on and that's what we want to achieve."

In the same fixture in the past two seasons Leeds have beaten St Helens to be crowned Super League champions.

And the 32-year-old former Newcastle Knights player is desperate to avoid another Grand Final defeat.

Australian Gidley also believes his team are over the poor results that threatened to derail their season.

"I think the last couple of games reflected that," he continued. "We've been happy with our performances against Huddersfield and Wigan last week.

"So we're hoping to continue that vein of form into Saturday night."
