St Helens second-row forward Matty Ashurst says he is enjoying being part of the first-team squad this season. Ashurst, 19, hopes he can continue to add to the 15 appearances he has made for Mick Potter's side. "I didn't expect to get as many games as I have in my first season," Ashurst told BBC Radio Merseyside. "Mick has given me the chance and he's had confidence in me. I was quite happy to take my opportunity and show what I could do." | I was quite lucky to play quite a few games in a row and it's been really good for me |
Ashurst admitted he wanted to make an impact on the team this season as he looks to progress at Knowsley Road. "I set myself a goal at the start of the year just to make my debut and just to see what happened from there," he added. "But I was quite lucky to play quite a few games in a row and it's been really good for me. I'm really happy with how it's going so far. "There are lots of young lads coming through and it seems the people coming through are getting younger and younger. It's a young man's game so I want to get established as soon as I can."
