St Helens' Knowsley Road ground is earmarked for housing

Former St Helens captain Paul Sculthorpe says the club's new stadium will take the them to a "new level".

The Super League leaders have been at Knowsley Road for 116 years but hope to be in their 18,000 capacity, £25m new home by 2011.

"The club need the new stadium and deserve it. It will take them to a new level on and off the field," Sculthorpe told the BBC's Super League Show.

"We've been at the top for 10 years and this will take us even further."
