Gidley aims to extend Saints stay

Matt Gidley
Gidley is currently enjoying his second season with St Helens

St Helens centre Matt Gidley has quashed speculation he could return to Australia and says he wants to stay at the club for another season.

Gidley, 31, says he hopes to stay at Saints for the foreseeable future if he stays injury-free.

"I'm hoping to stay fit and healthy and hopefully we can work something out over the next few months," Gidley told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"The body is still feeling fine so and I'm enjoying my rugby."

He added: "I've been talking to my wife and I wanted to wait till mid-way through the year before making any decisions. At the moment the body is feeling good and I'm happy to keep playing on.

"I got through the entire pre-season this year which was pretty tough and that was going to be one of my measuring sticks."
