League success will come - Lucas

Lucas Leiva
Lucas has scored three goals for Liverpool this season

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes the Reds will be better placed next season to push for their first Premier League title.

The 22-year-old Brazilian says the Anfield side will have to learn quickly ahead of the new season.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I think the main problem this year were the draws at home.

"But now we have to think about next season, approach the games well and try to improve from our mistakes."

He added: "Last season in January we were out of the fight for the title, but this year could have won it in the last two or three games.

"Unfortunately Manchester United proved they deserved the title because they did really well."

The former Brazil Under-20 captain is confident next year will be Liverpool's year but he is predicting improvements in his own game as well as he looks to battle for a regular first-team place.

"I'm improving a lot," Lucas continued. "I'm doing some special work to add some weight so I feel more confident with more power, so hopefully next season will be my best."
