Lyon has made a huge impression during his time in England |
Jamie Lyon has confirmed he is to leave St Helens at the end of the season to return to Australia. The 24-year-old former Test centre, the reigning Super League Man of Steel, has signed a four-year contract with the Sydney-based Manly Sea Eagles.
"Once my contract is finished at St Helens I will be looking at a return to Australia, a strong off-season and a return to NRL competition," he said.
Saints, who tried to persuade Lyon to stay, declined to comment.
Lyon had been in huge demand since he made it clear he would return home at the end of his two-year deal with Saints and was expected to return to his old club Parramatta, who retained his registration during the player's spell in England.
"We are delighted Jamie will be in maroon and white for the next four seasons," said Manly chief executive Paul Cummings.
"He is only 24 and considered one of the finest players in the game."
Lyon is the leading scorer in Super League so far this season.
