Lyon was the Super League's star player last season |
Canberra Raiders have entered the race to snap up St Helens' Australian centre Jamie Lyon for the 2007 season. The 24-year-old, out of contract at the end of next season, had a superb debut year for the club in 2005 and won the Super League Man of Steel Award.
He is reportedly keen to return home, where Manly are favourites to sign him, but face competition from Canberra.
"A lot of clubs will be interested in him - including us," Raiders manager Don Furner told the Sydney Sun-Herald.
"We're after a quality centre and we'll have the money to get one.
"We'll be watching him closely over the next few months and will be making sure his manager knows we're interested."
Lyon, who scored 194 points for Saints last season courtesy of 24 tries and 49 goals, became only the fourth foreigner to be named the Super League's top player.
His current employers have not given up hope of persuading him to sign a new contract.
