Millward got it all wrong - Joynt
Chris Joynt
Joynt retired at the end of 2004
Chris Joynt says St Helens coach Ian Millward should not have fielded a weakened team at Bradford last year.

Saints lost 54-8 and found themselves deep in controversy when players Sean Long and Martin Gleeson were found to have bet on a Bulls' victory.

"The decision to field a weak side came back to haunt us," admitted Joynt.

"The fact that it became diverted into a gambling issue probably took some of the heat off the coach's decision to pick an under-strength team."

Joynt added: "You can get away with resting one or two players - but don't take the micky and say they are all out injured."

The former Saints captain, who retired at the end of last season, hits out at Millward in his autobiography "The Quiet Man", which is published this week by Vertical Editions.
