Daniel Holdsworth will captain Salford in their final season at The Willows |
Salford City Reds have appointed Daniel Holdsworth as their new captain for the 2011 Super League season. The 26-year-old Australian half-back, who joined the club last season from Canterbury Bulldogs, signed a new three-year contract in the summer. "Daniel was an influential player in his first season and a performer of the highest level," said coach Shaun McRae. "I feel he is the right person with the right attitude to take the mantle from long-serving captain Malcolm Alker." Former captain Alker retired at the end of last season to take up an assistant coaching role at the Willows. Holdsworth said: "It's a great honour to be taking on the role of captain at Salford City Reds. "Malcolm leaves a big void, but I hope I can do justice to the role and look forward to leading the Reds out in the final year at The Willows in what will hopefully be a successful season."
