Salford City Reds have appointed former St Helens legend Phil Veivers as their new assistant coach. The 46-year-old Australian, who also had a spell in the Super League with Huddersfield, was most recently assistant coach at Wigan. "I see Salford as one of the up and coming clubs in Super League," he said. "Especially with the new stadium which is monumentally important for us all. "I'm extremely grateful for the chance. I'm glad to be back in the game." He added: "Being out of the game for 12 months has freshened me up a little and made me more hungry for success. It's great to be back." Veivers joins Shaun McRae and Malcolm Alker in the Reds backroom staff and will start work this week as the players return to pre-season training.
