Man Utd defender Rafael receives FA fine and warning
Rafael reacted angrily to being shown a red card against Tottenham
Manchester United's Rafael has received an £8,000 fine and a warning about his future conduct following his actions in last week's 0-0 draw with Tottenham.
The Brazilian full-back reacted angrily after he was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
He later apologised and accepted an improper conduct charge for his behaviour, but requested a personal hearing with the disciplinary panel.
He escaped an extension to the one-game ban he will serve for the red card.
It means the 20-year-old will only miss Saturday's encounter with Birmingham, returning for the trip to Blackpool on Tuesday.
The verdict will be welcomed by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who outlined before the hearing why he thought referee Mike Dean was wrong to apply the second booking.
"[Former referee] Dermot Gallagher said it was the worst decision of the week," said Ferguson. "Everyone knows it was a bad decision. It happens.
"Unfortunately, in a game of that magnitude it could have had a big impact."
