Patten, carrying the ball, has been with Australian side Canterbury since 2001
Salford have signed Canterbury Bulldogs full-back Luke Patten on a three-year deal starting next season. The City Reds are thought to have beaten Super League rivals Huddersfield to land the 30-year-old Australian. "Luke has been one of the finest full-backs in the world for many years and it is a signal of our intent for the future," said chairman John Wilkinson. Daniel Holdsworth, Ashley Gibson and Adam Sidlow also recently committed to new contracts with Salford. "As part of our plan, as we move to our new home in 2012, it is our intention to strengthen the team and compete in what will be an historical year for our club," added Wilkinson. Patten, who joined Canterbury in 2001, has twice been the Australian club's player of the year. Salford, who expect this season to be their last at The Willows before leaving for a new stadium at Barton, are currently 12th in Super League.
