Wilkinson is disappointed building work is not yet underway |
Salford City Reds chairman John Wilkinson has said their proposed new stadium will go ahead as planned. The future of the project was thrown into doubt when funding for the college due to share the site was withdrawn. Wilkinson told BBC Radio Manchester: "Our stadium doesn't entirely depend on Learning and Skills Council funding. "We know the deadlines, we know the timeframes - we've got to bring a stadium out of that ground in 2010 and that's what we'll do." Wilkinson confirmed he also still expects there to be a hotel on the site, although it will not be connected to the stadium. The Salford chairman is convinced the new ground will go ahead despite delays to the construction. "Everything's in place," he said. "We know what we've got to do - yes I'm disappointed that we're not a little bit further down the line. "It's a very complex site we're trying to put together here."
