England captain Jamie Peacock has been named the 2008 Leeds Rhinos Player of the Year. The 30-year-old prop, who has scored two tries in 24 Super League appearances, pipped Brent Webb and Rob Burrow to the title. Peacock said: "As a kid, all I ever dreamt of was just seeing my name up on the scoreboard so to be awarded Player of the Year is unbelievable. "I think I am playing the best rugby of my career now." Peacock, who joined the Rhinos in 2006 from rivals Bradford Bulls, added: "(Coach) Brian McClennan has come in this year and you can see his passion for the club every day.  | 606: DEBATE | "That gets the players excited about their job and we all want to achieve great things together." There were also accolades for Luke Burgess who was named as the club's most promising young player, while Scott Donald picked up the award for try of the season for his effort against Hull FC at Headingley on 6 June. McClennan said: "I would like to congratulate all the winners on their awards, they are all richly deserved. "This was a special night for us as a club and a chance to recognise some outstanding efforts. "We have still got some work to do this season, and we are looking forward to that challenge, but events like this remind us how special our club is."
