Leeds's Great Britain half-back duo Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire have signed new five-year contracts keeping them at the Super League champions until 2013. The pair, both aged 25, have spent their entire senior careers to date with the Rhinos. "They're world-class and to commit their career to the club speaks volumes about them and also about Leeds," said coach Brian McClennan. "To spend your whole career at one club is something to admire in this era." | 606: DEBATE |
He continued: "The club have worked hard to create an environment that people do not want to leave and that is a great message to give our young people." The pair have each scored over 100 tries for the club already in their career, a feat that only 23 players have achieved in the 113-year history of the Rhinos. Burrow, who will be England scrum-half for next week's international against France, said: "This is the best club in the world and I don't want to be anywhere else. | I think this group of players is going to be successful in the years ahead and I want to be part of that Leeds half-back Danny McGuire |
"It is great playing and training alongside lads I grew up with and that was certainly a factor when deciding on the new deal. "I know that this club is going to be successful for a number of years and I want to be part of that. "I would like to think I have a few more years in me at the end of this contract but I have certainly committed the prime years of my career to the Rhinos." McGuire, who is 13th in Leeds' all-time try-scoring list, said he was looking forward to an even brighter future. "I am 25 now and as a player your best years are probably between 25 and 30. "I had another year to go on my current deal so signing a new deal now wasn't necessary but when I sat down with my girlfriend and family, I could only ever see myself playing for Leeds so I was more than happy to sign. "I think this group of players is going to be successful in the years ahead and I want to be part of that."
