Gibson has two years left on his current Leeds contract |
Ashley Gibson made his long-awaited return to action as Leeds stepped up their preparations for the new season with a 50-6 win at Hunslet on Tuesday. The 21-year-old centre had been out of action for seven months after undergoing a knee reconstruction.
"It was great to see Ashley Gibson back out there," said Rhinos assistant coach Willie Poching. "There were no side effects, so that was tremendous news."
Gibson kicked two goals in his side's nine-try win at South Leeds Stadium.
The England international damaged knee ligaments in the 54-8 victory over Catalans Dragons in April.
A young Leeds team were 32-0 up at half-time against their Lazenby Cup opponents and could have score more tries.
"We missed six or seven chances in the first half and another couple of certain tries in the second half but at this stage of the season that can be excused," added Poching.
Leeds will continue their build-up to Super League XIII with a game at Featherstone on Sunday.
