Peacock emerged with honour from last tear's Tri-Nations |
Leeds Rhinos will be without Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock for their opening Super League match at Salford on 11 February. Peacock suffered a fractured eye socket in Friday's 50-0 pre-season friendly win over Huddersfield.
But he does not require surgery and could return a week later.
"It is disappointing for Jamie that he will miss the Salford game but the news is much better than we first feared," said Rhinos coach Tony Smith.
"We will wait to hear from the experts before he returns but we are hopeful he will be available for the Hull game the next week and if not that definitely the following week."
Huddersfield prop Keith Mason has been hit with a charge of alleged striking.
Giants now also have an anxious wait to discover if Mason will be available for Sunday's clash with champions St Helens.
Mason, who was sin-binned along with Peacock following the clash which led to the Leeds player's injury, will appear before the League's disciplinary committee on Tuesday.
