Cummins spent the season recovering from a knee injury |
Leeds' longest-serving player, Francis Cummins, has announced his retirement just a week after his 29th birthday. The winger, who joined the Rhinos in 1993 from Dewsbury amateur side St John Fisher, has chosen to join the coaching staff rather than move to another club.
He said: "I had flattering offers from other clubs but I am fortunate enough to have played at a great club and I didn't want to drop below that level.
"I'm delighted to be staying and we'll work out my exact role next week."
Cummins holds the record as the youngest-ever player to appear in a Challenge Cup final.
He was just 17 years and 200 days old when he played against Wigan in 1994.
He set a new club record for consecutive appearances at the end of the 2003 season after playing 178 games.
