Hull KR vice captain Clint Newton is convinced Rovers can do well in the Super League this season.

The Robins are fifth in the table having won four and lost four of their opening eight games.

Newton told BBC Radio Humberside: "The people of Hull should be excited by the prospects of this year if we can stay injury free and play a bit smarter.

"They club have had to battle in recent years and done it tough without depth. This year we have depth."

KR had a mixed Easter weekend beating local rivals Hull FC 11-10 on Good Friday but going down 18-12 against Wigan at the JJB on Easter Monday.

Newton thinks the squad contains the right blend to make Rovers a force this season.

"They have got some good leaders in the side, there is some real grit and determination in the side and I would be worried if we didn't have that."

The 26-year-old added: "I think the squad is a very well constructed side, I think Justin Morgan and the powers above have put a very good team together."
