KR to boost Craven Park capacity

Craven Park
Rovers' Good Friday game against Hull FC at Craven Park is a sell-out

Hull KR are set to take Craven Park's capacity past the 10,000-mark with the completion of the East Stand extension.

That figure is the minimum requirement for Super League franchises.

Rovers chief executive Paul Lakin told BBC Radio Humberside: "We're working towards opening the East Stand for the Bradford game on the 13 April."

KR plan to continue with the wholesale upgrading of Craven Park, including improving the South East corner and building a two tier North Stand.

Lakin said: "We have to go through various procedures with safety officers but it is our intention [to have over 10,000 fans for the Bradford game] but if not, clearly it will be ready for the Leeds game."

Lakin believes the plans to redevelop Craven Park prove that Rovers are the most progressive club in rugby league over the past three years.

Plans are in place for the longer term development of the ground alongside the short-term target of pushing the capacity beyond the 10,000-mark.

We are starting to see fruition for our hard work, there are going to be quite a few more major announcements this year I would suspect

Lakin added: "The East stand is in full flow now, the exact capacity hasn't been confirmed yet but the whole East Stand is going to be reviewed and that will take place in the next seven days.

"Regardless, it will definitely go over 10,000 and I suspect it will be around the 1,200-1,300-mark additional, but we have asked for the whole of the East Stand to be re-looked at capacity-wise because we do feel there could be better use of space. The extension will certainly take us to 10,000-plus and we will go from there.

"We will be very shortly putting in planning permission for the extension to the south east side of the East stand to be put into place at the end of this season.

"If we put planning permission in now we can get on with that, if that is our intention, in October onwards, and we are still heavily involved and making good strides in terms of funding for a new all-seater stand at the North End.

"We are starting to see fruition for our hard work, there are going to be quite a few more major announcements this year I would suspect.

"We are very focused and hopefully we will continue to have a stadium, and a greater stadium, to be proud of."
