Cooke was on the winning side in his first derby for Rovers

Cooke was instrumental in Rovers' derby win but he was keen to divert attention from himself after his controversial move between the bitter rivals.

"It was nice to get out and play. I'm overjoyed for the boys - they've worked really hard this week," he said.

"It would have been the same whoever we were playing. It was only special because we ended our losing run."

Cooke played a part in the build-up to both Rovers' tries, scored by Makali Aizue and Ben Cockayne, as well as kicking three goals.

Coach Justin Morgan was thrilled by the contribution of his new signing.

"Paul Cooke is hugely influential," he said.

"He's lifted the intensity of our sessions. Everybody's out there trying to provide what he wants and he's helping everyone at the same time.

"He's starting to form a good understanding with James Webster and hopefully that can develop and be a very lethal half-back combination in Super League."

Hull coach Peter Sharp was critical of his team's overall performance, but was satisfied with how they dealt with Cooke.

"I didn't think he was that influential," he said.

"I thought we handled him all right. He came up with some nice kick plays and a nice pass at the back end of the game."
