Hull FC hit by Raynor injury blow

Raynor had to miss the World Cup because of the injury

Hull FC winger Gareth Raynor is set to miss the first few months of the season after being told he needs a second operation on a niggling toe problem.

The 30-year-old will undergo surgery on Tuesday and the club are not putting a timescale on his return.

"It could be that he's out until April - he could be back before then but he could be out longer," Hull FC coach Richard Agar told BBC Radio Humberside.

Raynor missed last year's World Cup in order to have surgery on the same toe.

The Great Britain and England international has already had to delay the second operation after suffering an infection in the wound.

"The nature of the operation means they needed the skin to heal on the toe before they opened it back up again because of the risk of infection," added Agar.

"It has been pretty much as simple as waiting for a scab to drop off his toe, as daft as it sounds.

"It's hard for them to say (how long Raynor will be out for) until they get in their and see the damage."

Raynor will travel to Wrexham for the surgery, which will aim to fuse the joint of his big toe.

The winger grabbed five tries in Super League last season, and also scored at Wembley in Hull's Challenge Cup final defeat at the hands of St Helens.

The Super League season kicks off on 6 February, with Hull FC's first game coming against Wigan on 13 February.
