Hull will not appeal against fine

.

Hull FC have decided not to appeal against the record 100,000 fine imposed on them for fielding an ineligible player in the Challenge Cup.

The club were punished for playing Jamie Thackery against two teams before he was placed on Hull's roster.

Chief executive James Rule said on Tuesday: "The punishment could have been more severe.

"It was within the remit of the Rugby Football League to expel us from the competition either this year or next."

Thackery appeared for Hull in the 42-5 win over Rochdale on 20 April and the 32-18 victory over Widnes in the fifth round.

But despite having seven days to appeal after being found guilty of the RFL's rules Hull decided to accept the fine, 40,000 of which is suspended for 12 months.

Rule added: "Thankfully the club is in a strong financial position and can absorb the fine.

"It was a mistake, we know how it happened, it's easy to resolve, but it's not a case of us all scratching our heads and asking 'How can this have happened?'"
