Godwin joined Wigan from Castleford in 2004 |
Hull have completed the signing of Wigan hooker Wayne Godwin. The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal and will move to the KC Stadium at the end of the season.
Hull view the former Castleford player as the successor to Kiwi Richard Swain, who will retire from the game at the end of the 2007 campaign.
"Godwin is a terrific young prospect. He is sound technically and has good speed out of dummy-half," said Hull coach Peter Sharp.
"We see him as an ideal replacement for Richard Swain.
"He is a smart young player and with a year under Richard's wing it will help his development enormously.
"I think he sees that and that is why he is prepared to come over here and play second fiddle to Swainy in an effort to learn more off him and develop his game so when he gets his chance in the starting squad he is ready for it.

"Being around a guy like Richard he can learn so much, especially where attitude is concerned. Swainy is one of the best players I have coached. His attitude is second to none."
Hull are close to sealing a second-place finish in the Super League after an impressive season.
Godwin's current team Wigan on the other hand, have been fighting relegation for most of the year.

"You only have to look at the league table to see Hull have a quality side with a particularly strong pack," said Godwin.
"They have been performing really well under Peter across the field. I see Hull as a club going in the right direction and I want to help them win things.
"The situation at Hull suits me a lot better, Richard Swain is at the back end of his career and I want to learn as much as I can from him next season."
