Huddersfield Giants hopeful on injured players

Huddersfield Giants are confident some of their injured players are close to returning to full fitness.

The likes of Jamahl Lolesi, Brad Drew and Martin Aspinwall all missed Sunday's 52-6 win at Bradford Bulls.

"Lolesi will hopefully be OK for next week, while Aspinwall's groin injury is recovering well," coach Nathan Brown told BBC Radio Leeds.

"Our longer term injuries like Brad Drew and Simon Finnigan are close to coming back too."

Despite a number of players missing due to injury, the Giants claimed their first win in five games at the Gratton Stadium in empathic style as they outscored their West Yorkshire rivals nine tries to one.

Brown added: "I'm not too sure about Paul Whatuira and he could be sidelined for a bit longer, but on the whole the news is getting better on the injury front.

"There is a lot to look forward to with these guys coming back, but the key is not to rush anyone back before they are fully ready.

"What we need to do is keep winning enough games while these people are out so we can make the play-offs and then have a real shot when we have the whole squad fit."

Sunday's game also saw Larne Patrick and David Fa'alogo successfully return after spells on the sidelines.

"They both contributed well for the team and knocked up for us at different stages in the game. It was good to see them back and carry the ball up so well," Brown added.

"They did a solid job for us and I'm sure they will build and get better as they get back into it all fully."
