Harrison, right, will work closely with McGrath in his new role |
Huddersfield Giants have appointed Karl Harrison as their new senior scholarship coach. Harrison, a former Great Britain international prop who has coached both England and Salford City Reds, will mentor the scholarship coaches. "This is a great opportunity for myself to put something back into the game," said Harrison. "I'd like to thank Huddersfield Giants for putting Karl Harrison back on the map. It really is a club on the up." Harrison will focus on providing advice and guidance to the coaches rather than actually coaching the youth team directly. "Huddersfield have got a really good base here, great facilities, a new head coach and a great first-team squad," added Harrison. "The next step is to have a great youth-team squad and hopefully I can be a part of making this club successful again as part of the excellent developing structure. | We are very pleased that someone of Karl's calibre has taken this opportunity Giants head of development Damian McGrath |
"There's no better place to do it than at the birthplace of Rugby League" The Leeds-born coach is the most recent arrival in a busy off-season for the Giants in junior development. The club have also signed up Damian McGrath as head of development, Darren Fleary as academy coach, Paul Cook as reserve team coach and Anthony Farrell in a supporting role to the youth set up. McGrath said: "We are very pleased that someone of Karl's calibre has taken this opportunity and hope that he can pass on his experience and give his ideas and thoughts, of which he has many, on the way forward for us."
