Life on the inside - Chris Thorman

Huddersfield Giants half-back

The mood is great in the squad at the moment, hardly surprising given some of the characters we've got.

You can always depend on Jonny Grayshon to raise a smile with one of his videos - he videos everything and adds sound tracks, the lot.

In Portugal, he got a video of him and Stephen Wild doing weights in just their Speedos. It was quite funny, the way they put it together.

Chris Nero and James Evans are peas in a pod. They are never apart.

They've both got girlfriends, but we reckon that's just a front. We reckon they'll be marrying each other when they leave the Giants.

Robbie Paul has had an awesome effect since he arrived.

We've become good friends very quickly. He's like an 18-year-old the way he comes yahooing into training. He lifts everyone.

We are very competitive in training, especially in the gym, but we seem to have developed a real understanding on the pitch.

If Brad Drew's at dummy half and I'm standing on one side and Robbie on the other, there's no fighting for the ball.

We seem to have that understanding about which side the ball needs to go.

He's given me loads of tips. Not just on the playing field, but in life as well.

And he's got his fingers in so many pies. I went with him to a Mike Tyson dinner the other night.

He seems to know loads of people both in sport and entertainment. He's very well connected.

We were all disappointed after the St Helens game the other week because we felt we could have beaten them.

Being a Newcastle lad, I don't get back home as often as I would like and I do miss my mates from up there

It's frustrating to go into the bar afterwards and have the fans telling us that it didn't matter because we had played so well.

It did matter to us, we were gutted in the dressing room.

I think that's a sign of how far we've come. We are no longer happy with just competing against sides like Saints, we now feel we should be beating them.

Away from the club, I'm settling into Huddersfield. Me and my wife have just bought a new house just off the M62, and there's plenty to do.

Being a Newcastle lad, I don't get back home as often as I would like and I do miss my mates from up there. But my mum and dad come and watch my games.

It can be difficult for them because my two brothers play at York and Gateshead, but they have seen all three of Huddersfield's home games so far.

I'd love to go back and live in the North East one day, but I'm very happy where I am at the moment.

The rugby is going very well. And as long as the rugby is OK, everything else drops into place.
