It was a shock to the system when I stopped playing at the end of last season and became a part of the coaching staff at Castleford.

For the first few weeks, I was left wondering what I was supposed to be doing.

When everyone else was into the pre-season hard work, I was floating about not sure of my role.

But Terry Matterson has been fantastic. He's been in my position - going from playing to coaching - and he's been very patient. Now I'm feeling much more settled.

Terry has been a breath of fresh air and has to be one of the best coaches I've worked with.

Richie Fa'aoso could have an alternative career as a crooner

His man-management is superb. He has a way of being authoritative but relaxed at the same time.

And he's big on his skills. We do a lot of skills work in training.

Players can sometimes get a bit jaded with the same old routines, but I feel totally refreshed thanks to Terry.

I even wish I could pull my boots on again. I would certainly have benefited from his coaching three or five years ago.

With so many new players, there's been a lot of team bonding going on at the club.

The other week we had a fancy hat and karaoke night.

Everyone was very shy to start with, but you couldn't pull the boys away from the microphone by the end of the evening.

I can't give too much away, but Richie Fa'aoso is one to watch out for if he ever decides to make a career of singing.
