The Crusaders have settled quickly into their new Wrexham home |
Former dual code Wales international Adrian Hadley says the Crusaders are going from strength to strength after their move from Bridgend to Wrexham. "You've got to build any club or any side on solid foundations," said Hadley, who played league for Salford. "And unfortunately in south Wales there weren't solid foundations off the park and then you're going to struggle. "Some of the things were a shambles, with players being sent home because they didn't have work permits." Six Crusaders players were deported last August after breaching visa regulations. There were also problems on the field with the side winning just three games in their inaugural season. | 606: DEBATE |
But the move from the Brewery Field in south Wales to the Racecourse Ground in the north, coupled with Brian Noble taking over as head coach from John Dixon, has shown dividends. The Crusaders' 20-10 win at Wakefield on Sunday was the Welsh side's fourth of the campaign, eclipsing last season's total after just 10 games. Crowds are also healthier and Hadley believes there is more to come from the fledgling Super League club. "They've moved up to north Wales, which has upset a few of the rugby league sides that missed out on a franchise," Hadley said. "But they're there now, they've got the right people in charge and I can see them going from strength to strength. "Brian Noble will be looking for improvement week in, week out and obviously they had a lot of problems in the off-season getting players together. "They only got together late compared to the other side as well, so they're doing reasonably well and I'm sure he'll keep them competitive throughout the season."
