Mike Turner joined the Celtic Crusaders in November 2008 |
Celtic Crusaders have confirmed Mike Turner as the club's new chief executive following the departure of David Thompson in February. Turner, 50, joined in November as marketing manager but stood in as general manager after Thompson's exit. His previous Super League involvement came in the 1990s with Sheffield Eagles, but has also been involved with cricket and rugby union. "I'm delighted to be back in rugby league," said Turner. "Working with the Crusaders, a new team in Super League, is a very similar challenge to when I was at Sheffield Eagles in the 1990s. "Like the Eagles they're a fairly new club and they're a club on the rise. "I'm pleased to be here from the start of the Crusaders' Super League adventure and I hope I'm here for many years to come." Turner started off as commercial manager at Leicestershire cricket club where he spent 12 years from 1982-94. He moved to Sheffield Eagles and remained with them for five years before moving to Bristol Shoguns rugby union side as a commercial director and then general manager. He then returned to cricket in 2004 when he was appointed sales director at Somerset and joined the Crusaders four years later.
