Matterson is keen for his side to do even better next season |
Castleford Tigers head coach Terry Matterson is already looking ahead to next season after his side were knocked out of the Super League play-offs. The Tigers' first appearance in the end-of-season play-offs was ended by an 18-12 defeat at Wigan on Sunday. "The improvement this season is there for everyone to see," Matterson told BBC Radio Leeds. "The key now is to make sure we improve for next season and we need to now make the top eight every year." Matterson added: "If we do that, then you never know what can happen and where we'll end up." The Tigers finished seventh this season, having been bottom of the table at the end of the 2008 season. "We've come a long way in a very short time and we need to build on this now," said Matterson. "To fight as hard as we did and to fight back to be in with a chance of winning it in the final minute shows how far we've come. "We will not have too much turnover of players in the close season as we want to keep it as stable as possible and improve further. "I think our experience of this play-off and also our run in the Challenge Cup will serve us well for next season."
